Who are we?
Our Story
Four Fathom Fish Co. is the story of two young men from Marin, Julian Sidon and Marshall Korss, who met at Kent Middle School at the age of 13. Growing up as friends, they took their own path while many of their classmates at Redwood High School chose more traditional routes. Julian, a competitive soccer player, was juggling a fast-paced lifestyle that included dealing weed. But after teaming up with Marshall, the two began to see a different future for themselves—one with more purpose and direction. They stepped back from their old ways, distanced themselves from old habits, and turned to the ocean for a fresh start.
Fishing quickly became their way forward. Every day, Julian and Marshall would head down to the dock behind Bon Air with one goal in mind: to slow down, enjoy the time, and reconnect with what truly mattered. After a few weeks of fishing off the dock, Marshall’s dad handed over the keys to an old boat, a 16.7-foot Boston Whaler affectionately dubbed the “blue bathtub.” From that point on, they spent every possible moment on the water, learning through experience and tackling challenges head-on.
Not long after, they realized they could turn this passion into something bigger. With Julian’s drive to create something lasting, the two pooled their savings, bought commercial fishing licenses, and started networking at Pier 45. They may have been young, but they were committed. Marshall took the lead on the water, fully devoted to mastering the trade, while Julian balanced college life with managing the company’s sales and distribution.
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. In the early days, they faced a close call when a crab pot got caught in their boat’s impeller near Baker Beach. As strong waves and wind pushed them toward the rocks, they threw out the anchor just in time, stopping the boat about 600 yards from the shore, and managed to signal for help from the Coast Guard nearby. Experiences like these tested their resolve but also proved what they were capable of.
After hundreds of hours on the water, Julian and Marshall began to find their rhythm. Their first crab job was a grueling test—the captain they worked for was relentless, and by New Year’s, both were ready to quit. But Marshall went back, eventually earning a spot on one of the best vessels with one of the top crab fishermen in the world. His dedication and grit soon earned him respect in the community, setting records like catching 72 halibut in a single day and hauling up to 800 pounds during the season.
Today, Four Fathom Fish Co. is built on resilience, consistency, and hard work. Julian and Marshall have learned what it takes to show up, day after day, regardless of the conditions. They’re more than just fishermen—they’re part of a community that has supported them along the way. From mentors like Tony, who showed them kindness early on, to loyal customers like Paul, who takes home the fish carcasses to cook up his own creations, the relationships they’ve built mean everything.
For Julian and Marshall, this business isn’t just about selling fish. It’s about who they’ve become along the way—the friends, the early mornings, the risks, and the lessons learned. Four Fathom Fish Co. is their way of bringing fresh, sustainably sourced California seafood from the ocean to the tables of those who appreciate the story behind every catch.
